Hi Frankie !
I own 1999 model , 7500 miles oil changes and never have added even a drop of oil betwen . Met in the past at the dealership a few owners of E 90 cars , and they had complained about the problem you have , they simply have to add oil every 1000-2000 miles with no reason(no leak)- new cars !
They were told by BMW service dept. it is normal on E90 models-Is it ?!
Kill me , I got no idea, but this is weird...
Wow...posted this same question at another car related website and got over 30 replies. No trying to bash this forum, but one would expect to get a little more help in a BMW oriented forum.
Is there a way to maybe get a better exposure on this forum to questions like this one?

Your welcome !
There is some theory , that oil consumption on these cars is due to magnesium engine blocks-sounds silly ,but you never know...
I carry an extra quart with me, it's good practice to check your car over and add fluids as needed before extensive drives....manually check your oil level to determine if you need oil or if the sensor has gone to crap as suggested above
