hello everyone, i just signed up today and im in a jam, i currently am in the market for the 05 325 or 330 coupe. can anyone help me on this. pros and cons, will i regret not getting the 330 if i get the 325? keep in mind i look forward to performance. i know the 330 has about 40 more horses and torque, but is that really far from upgrading the 325? sorry for my first post and i tried serching. ohh one more question, how do feel about the new 3 series 06? they only came in a sedan right? with that in mind, i just want to say hi again, and hopefully i can be part of the bmw community. if you wanna know any history i have a civic hatchback :P and i like to go fast.

yes you will regret it. 330 is markedly faster, and easier to drive slow.

how hard is it to make the 325 = the same horsepower as the 330?

If your that concerned about keeping up with a 330ci, I'd recommend just finding a 330ci instead of a 325ci. Brand new, the 330 is about 7K more than the 325 with the same options/packages, but used that gap is narrowed.

You could do intake, exhaust, pullies, software, 3.46 diff in a 325 and get pretty close to the 330, but overall I still don't think it will quite equal. The M54 inline 6 doesn't respond that well to mods, so your fighting an uphill battle.

In your original post, you asked about the new 3 series. I for one love it. I always thought it looked okay in pictures, it looked better when I saw one at the dealer, but just yesterday I saw one on the road for the first time and it pushed me over the hump - I want one! Of course this was a 330 w/ the Sport Package, the only one I'd opt for.....it's the only one that has good looking stock wheels. It was silver, rolling on 18's and it looked really really nice. I couldn't imagine spending 40ish on an E46 330ci when I could get a brand new E90 for roughly the same price. For a little over 40K, you can get a 330...the only package I need is the Sport Package. Xenons are standard and the rest is fluff. Oh yeah, and I'd save $ by bypassing the slushbox

Hello,
I have a 2003 325i 4dr .... for now. i too upgraded from a 94 civic ex. while the civic is more reliable i just don't care. i've had issue's with my sunroof but the dealer took care of it. once you drive a bmw you can't go back. now to answer your question: Hands down, without a doubt you should get a 330. I love my car but I have to rev it out to get the oomph i want off the line. with the 330 that just becomes a non-issue. i just saw an '06 330 and i'm in love. i am selling my car and getting an '06 330. why go to the trouble of trying to mod a 325 ? if you add up the cost of new headers, a freer flowing catalytic converter, cat back exhaust, bigger intake, rechipping etc etc you really aren't going to realize a savings. next, the 06 (e90) is the next evolution for the 3 series. the e90 gives you a different engine, suspension, it's a little bigger than the e46. see this for a review and detailed breakdown between e46 and e90 Motortrend. if you want a coupe i would wait for the e90 version. if you really want a coupe now you might as well pick up a used 2003 cuz its still the same body style (e46) as an 05. save your money. also go down to your local dealer and drive an 05 e46 then drive 06 e90; betcha you get the e90. a sedan ain't gonna kill ya and you might have kids one day and want the extra doors. check out carsdirect.com and you'll see you can get a 330 '06 for about 38k. happy motoring.

drive e90 before deciding. from what i read, it is not as good as e46 (my taste). that is, not as much driver feedback, and more luxury. also, $$$$.

mmm on the e90 in some regards i think the exterior looks ok, even good...but the interior is ...gross. but they are supposed to be realising their coupe.
i don't really see why a brand new 05 would be better than a slightly older e46,
but... for the money you'd save with the 325 over the 330 you could supercharge the 325 and rape the 330

also welcome to the boards
