323 won't go into reverse - BMW Forum

Today our 2001 323 stopped going into reverse. When the automatic transmission is placed into reverse it just sits there. Pressing the gas revs the engine but there’s no movement.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for the information. It's at the dealership today. They say it looks like it will need a new (rebuilt) transmission. We have the extended warranty so it is covered. They say they have to first “jump through the BMW hoops” with diagnostics before BWM will OK the new transmission. They gave us a loaner (an X3) and said it should be done in three days.

I’m not happy about it breaking but it looks like the BMW service department is going to save the day.
