Ok, Im driving about 50mph and my back tires just lock up and the car is sliding all over the highway....I come to a screaching halt....people behind me yelling and cursing like i did it on purpose....im yelling what the heck is this!
Well after the tow truck came and I got it to the shop, it was my rear differential that just locked up on me. Anyway, to the point....
Since Im spending $3000 for a new one deos anyone know a good website or somewhere that I can by a performance rear gear ratio for a 2000 323i?

a stock manual 323 has a 3.07 diff; upgrading to a 3.46 increases torque delivery of 12.7%. That is an crazy increase. On top of that, the 323 is lighter in weight, it is very possible.
If you read on e46fanatics, many ppl with 323s upgrade to the 3.46 and has ran their cars 0-60 in the low 6's no problem; which is in manual 330 territory.
You may realize that all auto bmws have higher geared rear diff to compensate with loss in power in automatic transmissions. You may also wonder why a 3.0 Z4 is a ton faster than a standard 330 even though both produce the same power and weight being pretty much even (plus or minus a hundred pounds). It is because a manual 330 has I believe a 2.93 rear diff while the 3.0 Z4 has a 3.73.
EDIT: When i say 'faster' i mean acceleration. Higher ratio rear diffs hinders top speed
hey, while on the topic about diffs and such... will a 3.46 differencial fiton a 2004 330Ci 6-speed manual?? i believe the 330Ci has a 2.93 diff, but according to ur (woobie) theory, a 3.46 diff would increase torque to the wheels, thus can i expect a better 0-60 times? around wat figure u recon? flat 6-seconds?
also, where do i get one?
Well I do have to say one thing, my car is pretty fast already.Im not sure if that has anything to do with buying the in Germany or not but I have drove auto 330's and they are pretty quick, however Im sure I could beat one in a 1/4. I have CAI, Shark Injector, UUC Exhaust, and a UUC Short Shifter. All together works pretty well. I think that the diff will get me that off the line quickness, now that im out of germany....top speed is pointless anymore. Thanks for the help, Ill start looking at car-parts.com Thanks
Anyone else know any places let me know...thanks again
Who has worked with this before? I mean do I just call the number of a matching part or what...its alittle confusing, it seems that the whole car is for sale on here?
Hey thanks for your help everyone, I got a 3.46 diff from a 323i AT for $450 and its being installed now. If anyone cares to know the differance when Im done just let me know on here. Thanks again
Yeah it was pretty simple. I just called the number, paid useing my credit card, and they are shipping the part to BMW. A new rear end for my car cost $2100, so this was actually pretty cool. When its all finished, may be a couple weeks cuz Im having alot more work done, plus hurricane ivan is coming around now, so we will see. But Ill let you know how it is.

[/b][/quote]Our shop charges for 4.6 hours for labor at $102 p/h. So figure around $500 for the install.
