hi everyone,

i'm new to this forum and i'm about to buy a new 2004 320i with a sport package.
does anyone own a 320i? i'd like to know what the general driving impressions are like? any comments on the car would be greatly appreciated.

i've test driven one last week and it was okay...nothing too special. loved the brakes.

thanks again.

I've had my 2003 320iA since Feb 29th. Makes driving sheer pleasure. During a wait for a recent service, I took out a loaner 325xi. The mid-range torque was noticeably better, but I found the engine harsher and louder. That said, I wish for a 330. Basically for the added power. But back to the 320: sweet, smooth engine, mechanically similar to the other 3's, balanced handling, performance just OK and on par with many 2L Japanese saloons.

I had a 1983 320i for 13 years and it handled very well. Not too fast but I always had confidence in high speed handling and fast cornering.

My mate has a BMW 320i, 2004 model.
He let me have a drive, when we went down the coast for a bit. Its a fabulious car.
very confident around corners, secure as well. However, when you put your foot down, you expect more power because it would just compliment the overall package. It keeps up with other traffic, but don't pick traffic light drags.
Congratualtions on your purchase dude. you'll enjoy it

Here is the content of an email I sent to a guy asking me what liked and disliked about my 320i:

First of all, I got the 320i Jet Black with Sports Package (Sport seats and suspension, cool steering wheel, full size spare & 16 inch wheels) and Preminum Package (sun roof, heated seats & "on board" computer). I also got the windows tinted (a must!)

--What I like--

-Handling: The car is just so amazing, taking tight turns at high speed, changing lanes really fast, etc.

-Performance: My old car was a 2001 Civic LX (117hp), so having 168hp is pretty sweet. Agreed it's like the slowest bimmer you can get, but it's still much faster than what we really need.

-It's a BMW: Coming from the Honda world, driving a BMW is just so different. People look at you differently. I just cant spot smiling anytime I see my car, or anytime I'm in the car. It's like people respect you more or something. I get looks of other people all the time. That feeling is just great. No, it's just AMAZING.

-Sun roof: I did not think it would be that cool, but I really like it. Just the fact that you can see the sky (event when it's closed) is really nice. And it's a nice alternative when you what some fresh air in the car, but you dont want the noise of the open window.

-Wheels: THe look of the car with the 16inch wheels is really nice

-It's a BMW: Dude, they heat the windshield washer fluid before sending it to the window! How cool is that!

-Breaking: The car just brakes really really really well. It's stupid, but if you are going to have some fun with the car and go a bit fast, you might as well have some really good brakes in case something happens...

-It's a BMW: Man, it's just amazing. I cant mention everything. Keyless entry. Automatic wipers and lights.

--What I dont like--

-Gas: We used to spend about 30$ a week on gas. We now spend 50$ a week on gas.

-Jet Black color: Man, when the car is clean, it looks amazing. But when it's dirty, shit does it look dirty. And crap does black get dirty fast!

Hope this helps!

thanks for the review. that was very helpful...just wanted to make sure i'm making the right decision with bmw. i also considered the tsx, volvo s60, jaguar x-type...and the a4 1.8t but the 320i seems to be the best bargain i can get.

comparing the civic to the 320i is like comparing apples to oranges. the civic is a great car and comparing it to an entry level luxury sedan doesn't do it any justice.

thanks again for the review.

For easy maint., get a light color.
If you can swing the 330i, get it. You'll love the extra power.

I drove several 3 series and that's the one I liked (didn't consider an M3 though).
