Can anyone help i have a 2000 plate 320d, there is a smell of exhaust fumes and smoke coming into the car leaving a black residue on the screen. any thoughts. thanks
You must have a oil leak somewhere in the engine bay, which is being burnt off and getting in to the cabin-air system, warm the car up with heater,aircon shut off, bonnet open and look for smoke.

if you didn't solve the problem, or for those that read the thread looking for an answer: on the exhaust just after the first cat there is a flexible element, don't know the english word for it.
you have to cut it down and replace it with another one. it is done by welding.
you cannot see it even if you lift your car. you have to remove the shields as is just before the bent of the exhaust.
