temp guage goes to top after 2 mins.bottom rad hose is cold top hose is warm.uses 2 lts of water over 50 miles.used gas leak tester but nothing showed up.all the signs of a headgasket but not convienced

is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil?

water pump function correctly?
thermostat?

Check for Coolant in the Oil.(or if you Oil looks milky)

Also when was your last water pump change? could be a failed impeller an a leaky hose...

many thanks for reply.no water in oil or oil in water.did not check waterpump.does the impellor come off, can see the water returning via small pipe on top of radiator.plenty of heat inside car.fitted new t/stat and temp sensor.
