2009 idrive - internet access

Major Noob here:

I just picked up my first BMW - 2009 328i Conv. Really nice car, and one of the reasons I bought it was the vastly improved idrive.

One of the idrive features really caught my eye -- the integrated full Internet browser. It's part of a feature called ConnectedDrive, I believe. The story goes that it uses the cellular Edge interface (either in your cell phone, or the one in the car that does telematics - not sure yet)

I tried to use it, and got an error that the feature was not yet available, and after that, it disappeared from the iDrive menu.

According to the web, the feature is available in Germany, but anyone know if it's to be launched here any time soon??

Welcome to bimmerwerkz

I think you should be able to connect to Google maps from your car

I know that BMW is concerned about U.S. liability laws and so far hasn't made public any plans to bring this feature to North America.
