I am new to BMW's and i am currently deciding between ordering the 325i and the 325xi. I was wondering if it is really worth waiting for the xi for bad weather or does the DSC system in the 325i do well in the snow? Any information would be greatly appreciated
You will notice more and more cars going all wheel. It only makes sense since traction is better cornering etc, not just in the bad weather. I have a 330xi. In a nasty snow storm we had here, it performed very well with just all seasons on. Using the hill descent is a hoot in really slippery snowy conditions. Since some of Vancouver BC is built on mountains we can have some steep inclines here; I've used the hill descent to advantage when other folks were afraid to go down the hill.
The DSC is really another system, like apples and oranges. In really snowy conditions going up a hill if the tires are spinning, you'll want to turn the DSC off or you'll find you can't get up it. I know its a tough call, lets make it a tougherl. If you can afford the 325xi, why not get the 330i.

DSC offers nothing close to what AWD does. If you truly want/need AWD, you won't be happy with just the standard traction control (DSC). Last time it snowed here I couldn't get up a simple little incline in my neighborhood. My neighbor directly across the street has an A4 Quattro - he went up it like there was no snow at all.
DSC does increase your traction in the snow vs. no traction control at all. W/O DSC on, it was like my car was on the Dyno, it wouldn't even move in the snow. DSC definitely helps, but again, it's not AWD.
I have been totally pleased with my xi. I recently traded my 325is for a 330xi. I did the trade durring the winter here in WA....now when the snow got really deep, even with snow tires the 325is really had problems perforiming...I noticed a world of difference right away with the 330xi.
Get The Xi......its a hoot to drive......not only in the first snow but even in summer ......the acceleration is amazin.Pure :driving pleasure
