i'm looking to buy a new car SOON. i plan on buying a 330ci. i know the new '06 3 series is rolling out late this summer, but i've only seen pictures of a redesigned 4 door sedan. is the redesigned '06 only for the sedan? what about the coupe? need to figure out if i need to wait 9 months or so for the redesigned 330ci (if there's even one)

The E90 sedan should come out mid-year 2005 as a 2006 model. The coupe is due out mid-year 2006 as a 2007 model. So the wait could be long.

great, thanks for giving me an excuse not to wait so long to buy a new car.

another question, while we're at it. i've driving a manual trans before and since i live in so cal, i vowed never to drive stick again. i don't know much about SMG...could it really give me the best of both worlds, as it seems (i.e. i can use it as a auto trans in traffic and set it to manual on the open road?)

SMG is still an auto when you get down to it - there's only 2 pedals. Also, the SMG in the non M is different than the SMG in the M3.

Don't buy SMG. If you're going to buy a bmw, especially a new one, do it the right way.

The E90 series will have alot more HP than the current 330i's... If I'm not mistaken, somewheres around 255hp. I could be wrong but I do remember reading that somewhere. I'd wait, but that's just me.

Yup, that's right, I was just reading bout the e90. Cant tell from the pics, but it looked even more bulbesss than the e46. Mo power, but the asthetics will have to grow on me. I think I'd scoop up a nice 330ci if I could. Why wait?

SMG is "sequential manual gearbox" - it has a pneumatically operated clutch, so its definately not "just an auto when it comes down to it"...its even faster than a manual because of the insanely quick shift times. TIPTRONIC is just an auto (including torque converter) that just lets you control when the engine shifts instead of a computer doing it automatically (a.k.a its just as slow as an auto). SMG is the way to go if its available on ur car and u wanna blow the money on it - its the same kind of transmission formula 1 drivers use,k and it kicks a manual trannies *&^ :P

Mikey you are correct, it will spank a manual any day ( Especially the new '05 M5's tranny).

I just recently ordered a new 2005 325ci and I had some of the same question that you have. I didn't want to buy a new car then the design change in 2 months, so I set down and talked to the GM where I ordered my car. He informed me that the new E90 (3 Ser.) would be out in 2 months. However, the 2 door CI version would not change for a year and a half, but when it changes it will be a new 4 series coupe. From now on in the future there will be no more CI models. 4 door versions will be odd series (3 series, 5 series, 7 series) 2 door coupes will be even numbers (upcoming 4 series and the already released 6 series) That info came straight from the GM at Flow BMW in NC.
