2005 E46 Dashboard

I recently test drove a Z4 and 330ci, both '04s. I was surprised by how much nicer, IMHO, the Z4 dash in comparison to the 330ci. I believe dashboard design, like many aspects of an automobile is an issue of personal preference. I preferred the Z4 dash and cockpit design over the 330ci. The latter felt a bit dated and still included the ugly red wart on the rear view mirror.

Any news on whether the '05 330 dashboard and cockpit will be updated to more closely resemble the Z4 and other newer models?

Well, that's just it: the Z4 and 5, 6, and 7s are newer models. The 3-series won't get an interior of similar style until it is overhauled, which if I remember correctly is set for MY2006 (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong). So in short, no, the 3-series dashboard will probably not change much, if at all, for MY2005.

and you probably liked the z4 cockpit for the same reason i do, it seems to engluf you and you become part of the car and you feel integrated into it.
