I have a 2004 330i, 6 spd and I was shifting from 1st to 2nd and had a gear grind to second. I have heard that 2nd gear needs to be shifted into slower than other gears. I think I was shifting quicker than normal. I would think that the car would be able to handle this.

I was wondering if this hurt the transmission at all and should I have it checked out by BMW? Does an occasional gear grinding really do anything ? One friend told me that I would have to do it hundreds of times to hurt the 6 speed trans. The transmissions are pretty tough and the gear teeth are very strong.

does this happen frequently? i know i dont usually press the clutch down to the floor every time i shift, and there are those rare occasions when i'm trying to quickly row through the gears that i dont put my foot in on the clutch far enough, without even knowing it, and i get that grinding noise. however if its happening frequently you may have a problem with your clutch, but there's nothing wrong with shifting fast as long as your smooth
