My 2001 330CI is exactly 4 years old from manufacture date and at 60K miles. So like a conscientious owner I take the car in for the Inpsection II service. Everything seems cool until I get a call from a service advisor later in the day telling me that my "Control Arms and Bushings" are loose and falling apart and need replacing. Of course I want the car in tip-top so it will last as long as it can, so tell them to go ahead with the service since I don't know any better. I rarely horse around with the car at all, I think I had it up to 110 once (don't laugh). I don't take turns fast or tight neither. I googled the topic and seems like this is something that shouldn't have needed to be done at 60,000 miles, especially with my conservative driving habits.

The deed is done, but I just wanted some professional opinions on my situation (don't like to be taken). I've come to know and trust my dealer, but this just seemed odd. I must admit though, I thought I drove a new car off the lot when I picked it up.

unfortunetely this happens, as the prior post indicates.... in my case, i think they will go at 30k, due to unavoidable potholes in baltimore.

one way to tell: try test driving a new e 46 car. if you find yours to be looser handling chances are your dealer is correct. since the deterioration is progressive, the driver often gets "adjusted" over time.

suspension components are normal to wear on bmws. i am suprised you didnt have to get the whole lower control arm replaced with the bushing. personal i would have recomended the whole arm instead of just a bushing. you went to an honest tech and you didnt get taken advantage of dont worry.
