2000 bmw e46 316 (1.9) running sluggish

can someone help me!!
my 2000 bmw e46 316 (1.9) 191,000 miles. has started to run sluggish. it is very sluggish when cold and backfires if i rev too hard (3000 revs)after about 2-3 minutestarts to run smoothly. runs very smoothly unless i rev over 3000 revs. then it starts to get sluggish. wont accelerate beyond 75 mph. the yellow check engine light is on and has been for some time. the hedgehog need replacing for the heater blower. got new part but bitch to get top screw out.
i love this car and dont want to get rid ( or spend too much on her).

this seems to be getting worse.

Could be the usual suspects like a dirty MAF/Throttle-body !
