2000 323i vibration on accelerating

Hi all,

I have a new (new to me) 2000 323i, and it's making a strange vibration. It's an automatic trans. When I accelerate from 40mph to maybe 55, there's a weird vibration that comes out of the back end (the tires have been balanced recently). You can hear it more than feel it, but it's there, not unlike the weird vibration sound you can get when one of your windows is down at speed. The car handles fine and is otherwise in great shape.

Possibly the center bearing? If it's this, any idea what a shop should/would charge me to do this?

A check of the rear subframe for cracks may be worth a look.
