2000 323I blower not working - HELP

Hi all. New here - have a 2000 323I with about 59,000 miles. All was working fine and then I noticed in the last 2 days that the blower fan would stay on after I shut the car down for about 30 seconds.

Now today - no blower at all. No matter what I try to do - defogger, heater, etc no blower at all. In reading this site - may be the 'final stage resistor'?

Help.... Can't afford a dealer repair. I'm a single mom but am pretty handy with tools. How much would it cost to do myself? I do have a great mechanic who has worked on my Jetta and says he can work on my BMW.

Any advice would be appreciated!
