I have a 2000 BMW 323CiC and recently the dash indicated that there was an issue with the lights at the rear of the vehicle. Everything appears to be working normally, (tail lights, brake lights, etc), but I did notice that the license plate lights were not working and I assume that is what the dash indicator is complaining about. Checked the bulbs and they were fine, (replaced them anyway), and there is not a specific fuse for just the license plate lights, (checked all of the fuses to make sure). Used a multimeter to check for proper voltage at the light connections and no power was there. Checked the conitnuity at the connection of the license plate wiring under the trunk lining to the bulb connections and the wiring is intact. It looks like a power issue but with no separate fuse for the license plate lights I'm not sure what else it could be.
Does anyone have any ideas or has anyone run into this issue before? Just checking before I bite the bullet and take it to the dealer - its driving me nuts and the yearly inspection is overdue.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
