2000 323ci Valet Mode - BMW Forum

I have a 2000 BMW 323CI Cabriolet. The trunk no longer opens from the remote or the electronic release inside the car. The only way to open the trunk is with the physical key in the trunk. I read the manual and it seems that if the car is in valet mode the electronic unlock is disabled. On a coupe the car can be put into valet mode by turning the trunk key to the valet position. On the 323CI this valet position does not exist in the trunk lock. I am wondering if anyone knows if a 2000 323CI has valet mode and if so how to put the car in and out of this mode. I expect I may have accidentally put it in valet mode or something without knowing. I went to the dealer and they had no clue. I also checked a newer 323 Cabriolet and it does not have a valet mode in the trunk lock either. I can not figure out why the electronic releases on the trunk lid stopped working all of a sudden. Everything else on the car works fine.

Ithink valet mode is enabled via the glovebox lock on your model. Try turning the glovebox lock to a different position.

I tried that in the past and just tried it again to be sure, but no luck. There is just a lock and unlock and it does not matter what position it is in the trunk still will not open. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ok well Im pretty sure that is how its done so you may have a problem in the system. Thre is also a microswitch in the top that prevents opening the trunk if the top is halfway up or the bootlid. There could hbe a problem with this. Also it could simply be a bad trunk lock actuator. Guess its time to have a professioal take a look.
