Poped the hood friday, just showing off to a friend, and we noticed something.
If you are standing in front of the car, looking over it, in the back left of the engine, there is a strange bucket like cavity. It's fairly large, but there is no purpose from what I can see. It's just there.

Anyone know what it's for?
The space is for a 30 gallon trash can.

My best guess would be that that's where a battery would go if BMW hadn't been so nifty and put it in the back. Everyone has that cavity on their car... put tools in there

I was told that the hold is for European vehicles with the left side sterling wheel. My wife has the 2004 and the first thing i ask when they showed us the engine was that hole..... thats what the dealer says
