'03 2.5L auto tranny service

Is there a difference between what the dealer recommends and what is best for the tranny? I have 30K on my '03 325i and I don't want the auto tranny crapping out at 100K because of lack of maintenance. Thanks!

The folks over at Bavarian Autosport recommend a tranny drain-n-fill every 60,000 miles max. I believe they noted not to flush, only to drain. I've heard flushing can lead to dried gaskets and seals.

Thanks for your reply! I came back to the board after more than a month away to see if anyone responded.

I drain and refill a portion of my ATF in my Isuzu Rodeo every 15K and the original trans has 150K and performs flawlessly. I think I'll drain and refill every 30K on this vehicle. Any tips appreciated...

I've searched...
Anyone have a link to a DIY on ATF changeouts for the auto tranny in an '03 325i? Drain from the bottom of the pan and refill at the front of the engine bay? Which ATF?

No, but I have the Bently manual. If someone could tell me how to copy and link it in here, I'd do it.

I see my manual says that the ATF is a lifetime fluid. VW claims the same on some of its ATs, but they crap out at 100K.

Page 7. Make sure to get the correct type of ATF, there are several.

Send a message via MSN to 325isBaby
get the fluid from the dealer....I've only had a couple tranny problems roll thru the shop and neither of them were fluid/service related.

Glad to hear that. They must need rebuilding sometime, though. Any guesses on how many miles the auto tranny will last if driven reasonably?

Thanks Hootie. Pretty much answers all the questions! I'll be doing a drain and refill here shortly. I'm going to guess the dealer won't do it as a part of the service package that came when we bought it.
