I'm not sure if clips are used to aid the shade under the sunroof to slide open and close properly. My shade doesn't slide at all and does get stuck in the back when opening the sunroof completely.
What do I have to buy to fix this and how hard is it to install?
have you checked the sunroof track? nothing is in it? always check for obstructions first. then pending that, id take it in to get it fixed, only because i helped fix 2 e46 sunroof problems and they can be a bitch to get things to line up and go back together nice.

Any DIY links available?
TIA!
Same thing happened to mine. I spent a few minutes on my own with it but my lack of patience took over so I took it to the dealer. Fixed under warranty.
Thanks for the replies. I purchased extended warranty because the original warranty was up (it's a 2000). I'll call them up and hear what they have to say.
I have a new 2004 330xi with 2500 miles on it and it has the same problem with the sunroof shade. At times, it glides without a hitch; at other times, it catches on something and seems to go off track. From the sound of the previous replies, this is a problem for the dealer and not me.

Just curious, What did it cost you for the extended warranty and what does it cover. I got a 2000 w/ about 8 months left on the warranty and I'm looking into my options for an extended. Thanks!
The extended warranty cost $2500 (without tax) and doesn't include any electrical components (so i'm screwed because the airbag and seatbelt lights are on.) The warranty does however cover almost everything else. The length is 3 years I believe. I don't have the warranty details with me at the moment so when I do get my hands on it, i'll be sure to let you know!
