hey guys i just got my zwk's and i cant find instuctions anywhere. i was hoping for a website or write up. i searched for zkw's throughout the forum but didnt find anything on install. thanx!!
yup, there are two DIY's on the aforementioned link, one of which was written by our very own ElPresidetne!
It's pretty simple, if you have any questions after reading those DIYs, feel free to PM me. The only tricky part is realigning the alignment screws after installing the new ZKW's.
ya i have everythign connected, except for that random grey wire. i figured out what it goes to though. im gonna have the headlights aligned at the dealership and have them double check the grey wire. thanks guys!!! ...just kidding how in the heck to i hook up that grey wire!!?? does it connect to the extra boot??? help lol
I'm guessing you bought ZKWs equiped with DDE. IF that's the case, your mysterious grey lead is to activate your DDE. Most (including myself) will tie this into the pos+ lead on the parking lights.
Dude why didn't you get the plug-n-play ZKWs. I think it was like $409...instead of the $395 wire-it-yourself ZKW kit at Umnitza...
you'd save alot of heartache....
I got DEPO HID's and when I opened the box I was like what the hell..Plug and Play really isn't "plug and play". There is some splicing and wiring naturally, but with the wiring diagram included you need an electrical engineering degree from MIT to figure it out. The DIY's on the web help but I think I have an extra harness. Did you guys get a really long harness- i'd say 5 feet long and it has a battery terminal connector.. it is no way long enough to reach the battery. Does any wire from the kit have to connect to the battery?

yea it's the kit from umnitza. I got it before christmas and it is sitting in my basement currently. I gotta tackle this eventually..From what I gather the wire harness from the stock lights will now go into the ballast, then from the ballast it goes to the new ellipsoids..correct? And this is only for the low beams. The kit came with 2 identical harness's and one really long set of wires. I gota break them out and study some more

I got ZKW + HID from Umnitza. I'm waiting till the spring to install them. When I first looked at the wiring I was confused. But then it made sense. The stock wires for your low beam plug into the ballast, and the ballast plugs into the protruding wires from the low beam compartment on the new headlights. The PNP wires connect to the stock high beam wires and that round thingy on the new headlights (Umnitza's site tells you which colours go where). The grey wire is for the city light. The kit I got included wire taps so that you can connect the grey wire to the fogs or corners.
so basically I have to cut my stock high beam connectors to connect the PnP harness but can leave the low beam connectors on. And the low beam does not get attached to the PnP, it does to the ballast. So for the HID it goes like this:
Stock low beam -to> Harness w/ the relay -to> Ballast - then from the ballast to the HID bulb on the new housing..
