Well I just got my set (finally) of umnitza's ZKW Euro Ellipsoids with DDE Enhanced and had a friend who knew what he was doing install it tonight. Well everything seemed fine until we hooked up the headlite and the Angel eyes won't light up. He opened up one of the "gaskets" on the back of the headlamp and when i looked in there i was surprised, the wires were sitting in there and were put together not by soddering or whatever but with this weak brown tape? It wasn't even wrapped good. I dont kno much about headlites and things but what I saw did not look professional and I was dissapointed (and the guy who was installing also agreed).. Well we took the headlamp itself and connected directly to a battery and the angel eyes would not light up.. something is definitely wrong as BOTH sets of the headlites won't light up its angel eyes. So either that guy didn't do something right (which i think is impossible considering he connected it directly and they still didn't light up), the wires aren't connected right (brown tape?) or the lights are faulty.

If there is anyone that has angel eye headlites (or maybe the umnitza's) and has any suggestions on what might be the problem it would be appreciated. I guess I will call Umnitza tomarrow and see what he says might be the problem. Hopefully its something I can fix because it took 2 + 1/2 weeks to get them!

whatever is up with the "ghetto" wiring job, i dunno, its just sad that something so expensive would be put together like that , Yikes!

More than likely the reason your DDE isn't working is because you didn't connect them. If you would read the threads you start as opposed to starting multiple threads about the same thing, you might notice that I stated in your OTHER thread what to do.

The wiring inside the headlight assemmbly is from ZKW. It is a factory wiring job. I had no such wires taped together, and would like to see pics of the inside of yours. I'm sure the tape was probably to secure a wire to the inside of the assembly to keep the wires away from the heat of the headlamp.

I have purchased these, they were VERY easy to install, and were made much better than the NA oem headlights. I don't mean to sound rude, but don't trash a product that you obviously know little about. These are the best available, and all you are doing is discouraging others from buying them. Using my simple instructions or one of the DIY's in the OTHER thread you started should clear things up.

It is possible that they are deffective, but with neiter working, I doubt you have it hooked up properly.

Hey, i think i have the right to be dissapointed in a product if it doesn't live up to what i thought it would. And it's not just me, it's the guy who tried installing it that also agrees that the "wiring" inside is very weak and flimsy. It's one thing if you saw what I got here (too bad I dont have time right now to take pictures of the wiring) and then decided to tell me NOT to put down the product, but it's not like you've seen what i got here (and what i've got here does not look pretty).

the wires are taped TOGETHER, and very poorly i might add (the tape isn't even wrapped tight, it's loose and coming off of the wire itself) .. definitely NOT a "proper" job..

i showed it to a few other people this morning and they were equally dissatisfied with whoever did the wiring job inside.. once again... "ghetto"

i have someone else installing these headlights today and hopefully it will work, and i want to clarify that the headlites themselves look very nice.. im not trying to purposely discourage people from buying these but i was dissapointed with the wiring, that is all.

Like I said, I'm not tryng to bust your balls, It's just that i have the same thing, and got them from the same place. I took a good look at them upon receiving and was impressed inside and out. A friend recently purchased another brand of ellipsoids recently and comparing with mine, I wasn't impressed. I was very satisfied with what I received and would recomend them to anyone. I also had no problem with installation (took me like 45min. tops) so with all the problems your having it makes me wonder.

If they are indeed taped together, call 'em. They aren't cheap, and I wouldn't want leads that were taped together. Matt, gave me very good customer service, and I'm sure they will correct whatever problems you may have.

As I have the exact same thing, lemme know if I can help. The info posted in the other thread should get you headed in the right direction.

okay, here's the deal... i took the headlites to a professional bmw certified person (something i didn't want to do with the headlites) and the Angel Eyes I was sold is definitely FAULTY. the bmw tech called Matt at umnitza (i gave him the number) and confronted him that BOTH HEADLITES ANGEL EYES DO NOT WORK. they tried everthing and it doesn't work. the bmw tech ALSO told me some surprising things, that these lights look refurbished, that whoever messed with these lights did a poor job.. this is a shame.. i bought these headlites for my birthday and waited 2 and a half weeks to get them (after being told that it would take one week) and now they are faulty.

Matt @ umnitza told the bmw tech that he will send me "new parts" so that i can fix the angel eyes myself, but if i spend 650 dollars on headlites, i want a NEW WORKING Set, not new parts.

This is VERY dissapointing as i trusted this company and now i am let down big time. The bmw tech is the only one that talked to matt so far but I am going to call him also. The tech said that Matt now knows he gave me two faulty headlites, but what i will do from here, i do not know. I am pissed tho, as anyone who spends that much money would be.

sounds better than what i got, i mean, at least your set will probably work... right now i am trying to find a NEW seller of these headlites. I am so pissed off tho. I can't believe two things:...

1.) that he would try to send me "parts" for the headlites so I can fix them myself!?! i mean c'mon, if i spend 650 dollars, i dont want new parts, i want new headlites!!! (and then to tell me that these "parts" might not even fix the angel eyes)
2.) that he would try to get me on a 15% restocking fee! when i asked how he plans on restocking broke headlites, he didn't give me an answer, and when i told him he'd have to deal with a lawyer, he QUICKLY changed his mind...

That is simply unacceptable. They WILL replace your order. That is the attitude to have. As you paid a significant sum, you are owed what you paid for. I appologize for any derogatory remarks aimed at you, it's just that I've had nothing but good luck with them, as have other members of this site.

Give them a chance to redeem themselves by reshipping a new order..

i am definitely going to send them back and get my money. i am just very angry right now concerning these headlites. What even makes me more mad is that the bmw tech said that these lights were definitely either used or tampered with in a way that shouldn't be, he said they are NOT a 650 dollar peice of work and when he talked to matt on the phone, matt tried to get him to make me keep the lites and say that all I needed was a little part fixed (and then clarifying that it wouldnt even for sure fix the problem). when he said that, my heart sank...

I feel your pain dude.

You're right, send those parts back and get your money back. Also, I just saw post abvertising some of this stuff from them on this Forum. They should not let them abvertise. If this is the type of crap they sell (used), they should at least say it otherwise you have a case against them. Go to Bavauto, I know it's expensive but at least you're getting new parts!! F- those guys, take your hard earn money somewhere else...

I agree completely with you, when i spend 650 dollars for headlites, i expect NEW and PROFESSIONALLY DONE headlites.. as for their advertising, if this is what they are selling and if this is how "umnitza" (or rather the one guy who works there) deals with their customers (by trying to talk u into keeping the headlites that are FAULTY AND USED) then they should definitely be taken off the board.

I am still very upset about this and am looking for another company to put my 700 dollars for headlights down on. If you have suggestions, please let me know.

Kraze, based on what jllphan said, lets re-consider the next step...

Try to speak to someone above the guy you spoke ealier over the phone. Explain the situation. Tell them you would like to get another set based on your findings. If after receiving the new set the quality sucks, get your money back. It sounds like perhaps you got a rebuild unit. Again, Jllphan is happy with the quality and surprised by your findings... Try to keep your cool if you can... and if they give you sh*t, then get your money back...

I'm suggesting this just because you may have a hard time trying to find another vendor and besides it shows that you're willing to give them another chance which will help if a lawyer is brought in!
