Z3 Transmission changeover

I have a 1997 Z3 with the 1.9 liter 4 cyc. and the 5 speed manual transmission. What would it entail to replace the manual with an automatic? I would probably have it professionally done, but I'm wondering just what we're getting into with this. The car is immaculate with less than 30,000 miles and I guess I could sell the manual along with the associated parts to help defray the cost, which could be tremendous, but let's see what you all have to say first.

I say dont do it because most of the time people want to go the other way around with tranny's. Go buy another car and i'll take your's if you dont like the stick.

you may need a new rear dif too. and some misc trim pieces...

but for the love of all that is BMW sell it and get a automatic don't convert it.

The Z3 was for the wife to drive. Now that she has some back and leg problems, she wants an auto, but she loves the car and dosen't want to give up on it.

It would be more cost effective to find the exact same car with an auto and swap them. But since I doubt she wants to give it up you'll need most importantly an ECU, the tranny, brake pedal, radiator, differential. That's all I can think of right now.

It should be fairly easy for you to find a tranny because people are doing the oposite swap all the time.

The reasoning makes perfect sense now, I think everyone was pretty scared you were crazy for a while there. Good luck selling it or changing it over.
