First off, I'm new to the boards. Glad to be here.
Basically I've been looking at buying a 1992 325i that has 66k miles and is manual. My question for yall is whether or not BMW's are reliable. At a quick glance, most of the topics here are about problems and I know maintenance on BMW's can cost alot which is prohibitive for a college student.
So, what is your opinion. Should I go for the BMW?????? (I can get it for $7k)
Hey! first... to the forums.
Second, yes, they are very reliable. If you need to get it worked on, don't take it to a bm dealer, get it done yourself, or take it to someone you know to work on it. Or just any other mechanical shops, bmw dealers charge way to much.
I'd say 7k is abit much, though, probably where you are it's rare to find a bmw for sale. Or, whatever the reason. Take it to a bm dealer to check on it, before you buy it, just to see if it has any problems. Remember, always think before you buy.
__________________ The open highway, a $76000 car. And a full tank of gas, meets up with a BMW. Quarter mile and it's one lane all the way to Californa. Your cars slow down to meet one-another, then, without second thought, you slam down your stick-shift, step on the pedal and litteraly blow your top off. It seems as if the BMW behind you is preparing for something... then it happens, within less then a second... he's ahead of you on the one laned highway... You never even saw it coming.

GET THE CAR!!!! YOU WON'T BE SORRY!! As for your questions about reliability some of them ar e true. But the thing is that they are all only $30 little parts. The important things (engine, tranny, etc...) will last will over 200,000 miles. So you have to decide whether you want a reliable car in the long run or one which you have to only keep fixing some small things. Just my 2 cents.
hey Tia, welcome to the forums. a car is a car its only as reliable as it is treated. bmws have one of the strongest engines out there the bodies are solid and most to all working or moving parts are above the normal reliable standard, its well worth the buy, of course when you browse a forum like this , your gonna see pretty much nothing but problems, but that is what this forum is really here for, its filled with guys who want more knowledge, save a buck or two on repairs, or are way to picky and think there is something wrong with there car when there probably isnt anything.
