alright so i started my 92 325I up yesterday morning to go to work...let it warm up for awhile walked out and it was making a wrapping noise. So i obviously shut it off and got a ride to work but i checked it out today and its coming from the transmission...When i push my clutch in the wrapping noise stops and when i let it out it starts again...my dad and i thought it might be a pressure plate or something. Do any of you guys kno it there is an inspection cover on the tranny????? by the way the car has 104xxx on it...
Any ideas of whats wrapping????
could very well be your pressure plate. however usually if the teeth have sheered off or broken off the pressure plate they will make noise when the clutch is depressed. is the car auto or manual?
thanks for the reply's...im taking it to my mechanic tomorrow afternoon to see what the deal is...but will be doing the work myself seeings how im about to graduate from highschool and im only pulling in $250 or so a week...i might think about doing lightweight flywheel and clutch...any suggestions of what i should get?
took my car to the mechanic yesterday and he thought that it was the cluster gear? I'm not sure what this does but if anyone else knows please tell me...
Cluster gear is the most expensive part in the transmission. It has all of the gear ratios on a common cluster. It and the input gear are in motion anytime the clutch is out.
Draining the trans oil should show metal & possibly gear fragments.
