Winter Preparation.

Hey guys,
I just bought the '96 328is with ASC and will be driving it this winter. I live in Omaha, NE and some winter's can be bad.

What are some of the things I should do before the winter starts? ...snow tires(all 4 or just rears?)? ...check radiator fluid pH(where do you guys find these strips)? ...anything else I am forgetting.

Well Im a new 328 owner myself. Im putting back on my stock 16's with Falkans for the winter. But, Im in NY and the winter isn't as harsh.

As for getting it ready, definately change the antifreeze and also take the opporunity to replace your oil (forgot the recommendation off the top of my head... but check your manual for the correct viscocity for winter driving) You can run a 'heavier' mixture in the summer, but you want a 'lighter' rating for the winter.

Assuming you still have stock rims could also consider grabbing another 2 of em on the cheap and dropping blizzteks for your rear rubber

This is what I do before every winter...

1. Rust proofing

2. Change oil to 5W30

3. Refill antifreeze washer fluid

4. Change thermostat

5. Get a seperate set of winter rims/tires

6. LOTS of undercar powerwashes during winter

Sorry for the lame questions.
1. How do you rust proof the car and change the thermostat? Are there some DIY instructions.
2. Do you completely replace the antifreeze or just make sure the level is normal? Any chemstrip checks and if so where can I get them?
