The windows on my 316 Coupe are not closing properly, When I press the button to close the windows they start to close and about half way up they open again, this does not always happen, but does happen more often than not, I assume the windows are pressure sensitive and are opening because they are rubbing against the rubber on the window frame or something, If I hold down the Button the windows will close, but I would prefer if they worked properly as they sometimes stop my alarm from closing the windows, any simple solutions or is it back to the dealer .... (although it probably makes no difference its a 97 316i Coupe)

That happend to my dads E36 a while back, he took it to the dealer and they said that it was a common problem on E36's. I would call them and tell them exactly what happens, and they should be able to help you
it sounds like the anti-trap system in malfunctioning (service advisers don't always know the car from their ass) I was sure E36 used the strip in the window seal to sense resistance against the window so you don't squish kids hands and what not.
Mine does the same thing but its cause the weather strip on the outside get sucked in and messes everything up. Ive spent atleast 200 dollars on my drivers side alone and its still broken.
