last night i had to get my car jumped, and when it did my drivers side window stopped working. I am wondering if its a fuse, because its not like the window slowly stopped working, it just immediatley died when i jumped the car. any thoughts guys?
Have you checked the fuse? It's a 30 Amp fuse. That would be my first choice to look. When you open and close the door does the window drop and raise?
What year is your e36 and make? Early e36 sedans have a windows circuit breaker switch on the steering column towards the left. My next step would maybe check the comfort relay.
update: i tried just messing with the plastic strip but it didnt work. the door moved up about 1/3 of the way in the last couple days from when the door closes all the way and the window goes up, then the window will go up and down that much but no further. i took the door off and inspected what i could. the mechanism still works, theres nothing on the gears or the track. it seems like the computer just doesnt know when the right time to stop the window is. any ideas?

from doing extensive searching i found out that when i jumped my car i reset the upper limit on my power window. anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem?
I'm not sure that there is a limit that can be set like that. The motor is usually set up to sense when it is calling for more power (encountering more resistance and drawing more amps) and then the circuit drops out.
I had a similar problem with my 1995 325iS and I traced it to the window switch on the console. These in the '95 just snap out. I would take out one for the passenger side and swap them. If your window works on the replaced switch, just replace it. Bavarian Autosport has them for about 35 bucks.
