window problem, at wits end

My 1993 323is (2 door) has the inch up or down syndrome on the passenger side.

I pulled the panel and removed the motor drive cover; and sure enough the magnet had slipped away from the sensor position. I moved the magnet back in place and stuck it there with epoxy.

Put the motor drive cover back on but the window still inches up or down.

I resoldered the big componets from the motor drive circuit board but problem remains.

I can't really reintialize the system (fully up position for 5 seconds and down for 5 seconds). because the motor only turns for a second at a time with each pulse of the window switch (BTW it's not the window switchb as i swapped left and right switches but problem stays with passenger window).

I greased all the regulator moving parts but to no avail.

Could some other switch in the door be flaking out? What next, replace the motor and drive unit (expensive part)?
