They are a bit on the large side (diameter wise)
In the rear they will fit, I have 245/40 -18 in the rear (much to large diameter).
And it's quite a bit lower then a stock non-M3 E36 so you should be fine.
Some M3's came with 235/40 -17 up front and that at least isn't a problem.
Wheel wells are the same on M3 and other E36's.
But I can't gurantee that 235/40-18 works up front, I haven't tried and I don't have larger wheels then that up front.
I have 255/35-18 in the rear, and that will fit too. I do not know for sure if it will fit on a regular 3-series, but 235 will fit for sure! My fronts are 225/40-18 and it touches the plastic parts in the wheel wells when I park my car. The rim number (35 or 20 etc.) can also make the difference.

Are your fenders already "rolled" Last year when i got my m-pars I brought it to an autobody place to have the fenders rolled. The guy ran his hand under and pointed out that the fenders are already curved up and he considered them rolled?????
I should probably take a pic to better show it.... I bought this car from the original owner... older doctor and he swore up and down he never did a thing to it.
To do list:
Suspension--- researching
UUC System U TDM- 3/05
M50 manifold converstion 3/05
off to the tuning shop for custom software 4/05
Cams/lightened flywheel, throttlebody........ well lets see what happens

Same story here! I bought a one-owner car - the lady was a president of some company and the car had stock wheels. No mods ever. When I put on my rear 255/40/17s - I checked the fenders - and the lip was rolled! dammit - what's going on... I used the bat to further roll the fender outwards a bit, since the 255s didn't clear even a rolled lip. Then sprayed the inside of the fender with a anti-rust sealer and painted, where the paint chipped off a bit.

With the wheels tured or something?
I have 225/40-18 up front too. Haven't noticed anything wierd but I haven't checked to hard either.

what is your offset???

Probably the offset is a little bit different from yours. It's when I turn the wheel completely to the left or right.
