Will a 325 or 328 I-6 fit into a 318is - BMW Forum

i thinking about buying a 318is beause it seemes like its taking to long to save up for a 325is so i was wondering if it would be possible to get an engine swap from a four banger to a six cylinder

If you're going to do that, might as well wait and save up for the 6 cyl. The conversion for the 318 is too expensive. If you decide to leave the suspension, clutch, tranny and exhaust the same, you would still need to convert the engine mounting points since the 4 cyl motor is a lot smaller. The 325 isn't that much more than the 318. Probably an extra $1,000 - $2,000 vs. the extra 5-8K you'd need to spend for the conversion.

it's almost not economical. Engine alone is around 4-5 K, installation of the enigne is going to be very expensive, you need a new DME, wiring harnesses, etc.

Way too expensive.

i picked up an engine for $800 and the cost for the install ended up at around $3000.
w/a new flywheel, clutch, guibo, belts,hoses, the list is big, but....I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM SINCE.

bitcore, switching to a larger engine is never about being economical,....its about fun!!! 4-5k is alot for an engine.

if you felt like it, you could drop in a M5 engine, but its gonna cost you!

CDSystad where do you live? my mechanic is a custom porsche racecar builder, and his work is amazing on BMW's. if you need help finding an engine for a little less $$$$, let me know.
