White Smoke Coming Out Of A/c - BMW Forum

first of all i drive a 1994 325is e36 automatic. Second, a few days ago i was driving and the 3 buttons on the a/c panel (a/c, circulated air, and rear defroster) did NOT turn on. then yesterday they were all ON. (the knob on the left was turned off) then today this morning i was at a light and i started to see smoke..

i thought it was from the engine then i saw it leaking out of the center vent. so i tried turning off the 3 buttons on the a/c panel (a/c, circulated air, and rear defroster) meanwhile the left knob is still turned off. so after all this i turned on that left knob to turn ON the air and all of a sudden there was a BUNCH of white smoke coming out. and the white smoke was FREEZING... so i went to park and i looked under the hood and the input where u put the a/c recharge looked frozen.. i ttouched it and it was soo cooool!

so basically the 3 buttons on the a/c panel (a/c, circulated air, and rear defroster) are all ON, the left knob to turn the whole system on and off is OFF and there is white freezing cold air is seeping out..

CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT?!?!

It sounds like your climate control system is freaking out. White smoke, I think it is just condensation? If it is condensationg then it is normal, at least for me after the A/C has been on a long while and the air is colder then shit coming out of the vents.

If buttons are coming on and off, and the AC turning on when it is not supposed to it sounds like you might have the same capacitor issue alot of us have had. However I don't know if your style of climate control is documented with this condition. I have only heard of the digital dual climate controls doing this.

its not condensation its looks and feels like a dry ice effect in my Vents..

Depending on how the A/C cycles you can get fog, like the stuff the rolls out of your freezer on a hot humid day, blowing out of the vents. I was able to make my car do it a few weeks back.

I think you have a separate electrical issue with the A/C controls. It sounds like the evaporator is not shutting off.

I think that if you had a leak you would smell it. and if it was as bad as you describe, probably make you feel sick, or lightheaded.

does your ac have to be recharged often? it may be leaking.

My '93 325i does the exact same thing. I think it has more to do with the system just starting up and the freon condensing and coming straight out of your vents, because it only happens in my middle vent as well. If it goes away after a few then it isn't really a problem, sounds just like a minor leak.
