Hey all I have another problem. Latley when I drive my 95 318is I hear a whining or whislting sound when I hit pretty high RPMS. After it starts to whistle if I let go of the gas it still does it for a little bit and then it stops. Sometimes even on start up it happens. It sounds like its in the belt area but i'm not sure exactly. Any common problems on a 95 318is that would cause this? Would a timing belt cause this?
I'm going to try and take a video, but I can only send them to my computer 17 seconds at a time because Verzion is annoying.

Thanks in advance
No timing belt on either the M42 or the M44 Engine........Timing chain.
Update: I took off the belt on the lower left hand front of the car and the noise stopped. Do I need that belt to drive the car? Which belt would that be?
Its on the lower left hand portion of the front. Theres a belt behind it that seems to run different things but the belt I disconnected is in front of that. What is that belts use? And do I need it to be able to drive around.

That is your Air Condition Compressor belt........was the belt dry, cracked or loose......if not, maybe it's the A/C belt pulley tensioner that is bad......with the belt off spin the pulley see if it is noisy!
Will driving without this belt cause any harm to my car besides the AC, though? I don't care about the AC at all actually, just don't want to ruin the engine and shorten the cars life.

Just to be sure.......is this the belt you are referring to, the smaller one of the 2?
If it is......no harm will be done, just no A/C
