Ok, when i turn off the ignition i hear this loud whstling noise...

anyone know anything?

hi all,i also have a whstling noise from under the bonnet, i have a e36 316i
And also the funny thing is when it is cooler day it does not do it.

Anyone have any advice

My first guess is there's a vacuum issue that needs to be found.

My m3 just started this after my pulley esploded

It seems like it is a vacuum leak causeing it(any Check engine light?)

hi, thanks for the quick reply, no engine lights are on and i have also replaced the rubber boot from the air box to the top of the engine.

any pointers anyone and if vacuum issue any idea where i should start?

get a can on Carb Cleaner and spray a small amont on the connections of all the vaccum lines and hoses if the RPM rise you found your leak!

hi all, thats very much for all your advise.

I have now found the problem and the gasket on the inlet exhaust manifold is blowing.

from what part of the car? under hood/bonnet... under your feet.... or backside?

left side under the hood...it seems like it's only making the noise when the starter is working. hmmm....i don't know.

it doesn't make noise after the car is on, even when going speeds of 200kph...

i figured if it was an intake hose leak it would get increasingly louder as speed / rpm's increase.

i can't help you if you cannot sdescribe properly:
1) your first post sez: "when u turn IGNITION OFF..."
2) now this post sez... "only when starter is working..."

that is 2 entirely opposite events.

and then speeds of 200kph???

it's both, but one when i start the car it's real high pitched.

when i turn it off it's lower pitched.
