Have this thing with my brakes. Normal breaking car stops on a dime, but at high speeds if I have to hit my brakes hard...really hard 80+ to 0 the car seems to float and it sounds like things are grinding. After a complete stop with full brake pressure applied the entire time (to avoid a wreck) you can hear clicking or tapping for a couple seconds after the car has stopped moving. Been doing it for a couple years since I got it.

Any ideas? Should just be factory gear (replaced by dealer$hip after purchase) and first incident. Didn't resolve it. 97 318ic

Eh? Any accompanying smells? How fast are you going when you "slam" on the brakes - and are you SLAMMING on the breaks? It ALMOST sounds like you're melting your pads or something similar, but I doubt it.

It shouldn't be any smell. The problwm most likely in a brakes system. I had exactly the same problem not so long ago and when i tryed to fix it, i found that my rear pair of brakes wasnt perfectly fit. It was placed well but the gabarite clip on the brake pads was a little smaller that the holders. It would make them make annoying sounds and not stop your car propperly.

Hope that does work out for you. It's unsafe in a car that doesn't stop.

At any speeds over 30 probably I would say if you stand up on the brakes...I mean really hammer down on them...it sounds like its grinding and hten the clicking sound when its done. Only really noticable to me over 55 or so in traffic when I'm trying to avoid some @$$hole in a SUV on a cellphone LOL.

Brakes are for sissies

You can try to change Main brake cilinder for rebuild one (pretty cheap and no difference from new one), this might help as well...

I wonder if the brake lines are swelling during hard braking loads?
