Lucky me- I live 3 hours away from the closest BMW stealership. I want to order a kit to do my oil. Should I just order and have it shipped, or does anyone know of somewhere I could order from that would be cheaper? Don't I need a gasket for the drain plug? Just got the car , and have no previous experience with these...Easy to get the drain & filter? Thanks guys- 98 328ic (cabrio )
Easy to change. Get a 36 mm socket for the cap on the oil filter housing, that black plastic cap in front next to valve cover. You'll need a new crush washer for the drain plug and a new o-ring for the oil cap. They both come with Mann brand filters, Purolator only gives you the o-ring. eeuroparts.com sells Mann filters, $39.90 + shipping for 8 kits. Shipping is about $10 to the midwest, I'm pretty sure mine came via US postal service. UPS to Canada. eEuroparts - Search Results

Mann is OEM quality. I don't know of good places to buy them in Canada, but you can get them for a good price (not sure about the adders for shipping and or customs) from either:
