i think the dealer is the only play...unless u find say a real bmw blank on ebay and then take that to the locksmith and ask him to cut it...which i think they rnt allowed to do for sum made up reason i have in my head...call a locksmith!

I don't think anyone else can cut them. They are laser cut and they have double sided. Dealer chaged me around $50US for a spare key, $75 for the light key.

i just put in a new ignition cylinder and it came w/2 keys for only $64 total. it wont work in the door, but its more products for less $$$. just an idea. wont be nessicary for everyone.
Do the new keys come with alarm buttons built into the key? Do you know if the dealer can cut the new key so that the alarm buttons will work with the car alarm (if it's installed)?

Go on ebay and get yourself a flip key. Then call up your local BMW shop. They charge the same as the other locksmiths. I had a locksmith cut mine because the guy at the dealership had off that day.

I had the same deal when I bought my 94 325i...only one key (what do these people do with the others?). Got a new one made (actually they order it from like New Jersey) from the dealer...around $28 for the non-lighted key. I also snooped around my car and found out that it had the alarm system installed, so I went on e-bay and bought a 3-button key fob that was for my year and...now I can remotely lock and unlock the car.
You can find some locksmiths that can make a new key for you (it needs to be laser cut). They often use softer metal (like brass) for the keys whereas the dealer used steel or something harder (I don't remember the exact metal). Given this is a specialty key, you won't be able to go to the hardware store, probably best and easiest to go to the dealer.

No squeaks or rattles... unreal!
1994 EWS I (first year)...the only way to get replacement keys for this is through your local BMW Center since the key does have a chip in it to comunicate with the EWS module.
