where in the hell is my dipstick for my 92 325i - BMW Forum

ok i just bought my first bmw and its a 1992 325i sedan. i love this car to death after owning it for about 2 weeks now. anyhow i wanted to check the oil on the car but for some odd reason i cant find it. i found the transmission dipstick i think but i'm not sure either. any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have probably found the crankcase oil dipstick but think it's the trans. The 2.5 oil dipsticks are drivers side next to the intake and the loops are red at the top. The A/T in these cars may or may not have a dipstick so if you only see one it's probably the crankcase oil dipstick and the trans does not have a dipstick. (unless of course the crankcase dipstick is just missing, but these engines usually run very rough with an open crankcase).

My car is a 5 speed so does that mean I can't check my oil then? How would I know if my oil is low???

Thought you had an automatic trans. Manual transmissions do not have dipsticks, you check them through the fill plug on the trans. Since that is the case the dipstick under the hood is your engine oil dipstick.
