Where to begin... - BMW Forum

I just bought my '92 325i last week and it has a good bit of issues, but I bought it to "fix it up" during my spare time. My question is, where do I begin? Before doing any of the DIY stuff, do I need to take it and get a 15-point inspection done? Or are they just a waste of money and something I can do myself?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

hey, welcome.

if u don't know exactly whats wrong with it, i'd go and get a bmw pre-purchase inspection done. i know u've already bought it, but they'll still tell u whats wrong with the car and u can make urself a 'to do' list.

bring it to any mechanic, and have them do a little inspection...

So what exactly do they check during these inspections? How much do they usually cost?

The only real "noticeable" problem I'm having is that I have to put coolant in every week and I can't find a leak anywhere. Other than that though, there isn't really anything "showing".

If your state has safety inspections than any shop will do it for however much it is for a sticker. In NH (where I live) it ranges from $35 to $55 depending on where you go. They will check all front and rear bushings, struts, linkages, tires, wheel bearing, tie rods, ball joints, exhaust, belts, etc...
