so this means gear oil never loose viscosity?
and on the 328 1995, is the gear check light which I see on the panel, check the oil viscosity and level for gear?
I'm not sure what your warning light looks like but if it's the one for the transmission then there's ussually a problem and you should take it to a tech to look at?

it just works on the engine starts then stops, it look like a gear (circle with toothes) I just interested to know if this light checks oil level and viscosity or just transmission functionality,
mainly BMW gear oil not like the regular cars gear oils as far as I know.
Ok thats the transmission light, I don't think it checks transmission oil levels or viscosity of the oil. That light comes up when you have transmission problem, e.g. skipping gears, shifting out of sync, you know serious problems with the tranny.
gear oil doesnt' need changing because their is no smoke going through it and it's not being burnt. the only time youll need a oil change is if it leaking.
i didnt bother reading the whole thread but the "lifetime" fluid is only in the e46's

Thanks all, I was really confused about that so I just called the authorized service center they said for my model it is life time oil and you should never change, as if you change it with normal market oils you will need to change it regulary, BMW original oil is expensive at least for me for changing oil, it is arround 200$
