When To Clean Air Filter

i have an itg filter and have not cleaned it since i got my intake in july. how do you know when to clean your air filters?

free bump, mainly because i have the exact same question, I have a regular cone shaped K&N filter, when should I "recharge" it? How many miles approx?

K&N recommends to clean your air filter when it becomes visibly dirty or once a year, whichever comes first.

Don't know about other brands.

Well.. with the ITG filter... first I'll say.. good choice on that sucker.. that is the best filter around.. in my opinion... I've been through a few... besides that... when take your fingers and sort of pinch the filter.. and you get a dirty colored oily substance on your fingers.... then its time to clean.. other than that... if it looks dirty.. clean it.. period...

I clean my "green" filter every time I change my oil (every 5K miles)...but I don't live in a very dusty climate (if "dusty" can actually be considered a climate, I don't know...you know what I mean)
