when to change air filter

I have a 99 323is and I have one of those Green air filters. I put it in at 83k and I am now at 91k. When should I replace it? Also if I do need to replace it, how much better really are they then stock paper filters?

The typical cycle is 10,000 miles. You may also want to look into getting a reusable K&N filter -- you just need to clean it with their special products about every 10,000 miles. Also, take into consideratrion the possibility of a cold air intake. If you have that in your plans, you will not be using the stock airbox anymore, and wil be needing a different type of filter (cone).

Air filters should be replaced when they're dirty. There is no set time frame, as the area you live has a lot to do with how soon it needs replacing.

Pull out the filter & look at it. If it's dirty, replace it.
