Right now (I assume I need to get her tuned up in the next few days to improve this a touch and stop the slight chugging at idle) it sits at about 700-750. This is a good question, or leads to one...What should the idle be on a '92 318I? I thought most would be about the same, but thought I'd ask.
You put your needle on at the wrong place, take apart your gauges again and make sure to put it back on correctly. I think that this should fix your problem.

When starting cold, my car hits close to 2,000 rpm when i turn the key (clutch depressed, shifted into first gear) and i can feel a difference from when i start warm. then engine drops to ~750rpm
when i start warm: tachometer hits right below 1,500rpm and drops to ~750rpm
i think i feel a slight pressure on either my clutch pedal or my shift knob when starting cold that i dont feel when starting warm (or at least the pressure isnt at a level where it is noticeable)
is this all normal?
thank you
