Well Bud, I have the same car, same year and I have the Manual. it says for warm climates 15W-30. I buy the 15W-40 from BMW. and for colder climates You can use the 5W-30. But I hope some other people here can share as to what they use in their cars.

But in the end check out a manual or talk to BMW about it.

Where do you live? How do you drive? How anal-retentive are you? Ask 20 people, get 20 different answers. I use 10w40 BTW. I would use 5w40, can't seem to find it around here.
