Whats that noise?

Hi everyone.

On my 98 318ti every time I make a slight right turn going a decent speed there is a rattle/shake thing that goes on. Initially I thought it was coming from the passenger side wheel well, maybe a tire rubbing or something. As time has gone by I think it is coming more from the middle of the car. Any ideas?

THanks,

Michael

Have you checked if you are low on power steering fluid (which in these cars is actually autooatic transmission fluid)?

No, I haven't checked that. I'll take a look.

Thanks

what size wheels and what suspension are you running? you should not have rubbing with stock anything unless your wheel well is hanging down. theres a possibility of a bent rim or uneven wear on one of more the tires, or a bad shock mount

I thought that my wheel well was hanging a bit, but I'm postive that is not the case. It is a rattle that is coming from the middle of the car. Like the drive train area, wich I know squat about.

thanks for the response!

It could be a unicorn jumping up and down and poking holes in my exhaust.

I think i know what youre talking about- check engine mounts, transmission mounts, driveshaft flex disk and center bearing, and also wheel bearings. Try and see exactly what produces the noise (speed, turns etc). Undercarriage noises are a pain to locate, you can hear a noise and think its coming from the front when its really coming from the back. good luck-
