whats the difference?

ive noticed some of you guys refer to the e36 m3 as M3/4 and on the dinan website i noticed a while back that they had e36/5 and e36 whats all this mean?

edit: the z3 also says e36/7

some people referred to the z3/coupe as a e37 and the ti series hatches as e35's.

E36/7 = z3
^^ These are actual BMW chasis numbers

M3/4 => short way of referring to the M3 sedan, the same way some say 540/6 to refer to the 6-speed manual 540i

E36 = 1992-1999 3series
E46 = 1999-2005 3series
It is the European Model designation. here in the states they refer the cars as model year + series. In Germany E46 would stand for year range and model
