| 323's are as slow and heavier than a 4 cyl 318, plus insurance is probalby higher than a 318 since it's 6 cyl. 323's are a de-tuned 325, and no, it's *NOT* cost effective to take a 323 and tune it back to 325 spec. It may be cheeper if you are overhauling the entire car for hardcore race prep and rebuilding the engine since it's the same 2.5L block that the 325's have.
Go for a 325 or 328 if you can. The 323 is no less of a car than the 325, it's just got less power. Same chassis, same suspinsion, restricted engine.
