what up with my temperature??? - BMW Forum

today i was driving to school, which is about a 35 mile drive and i noticed that whenever i stopped for more then about 3 mins, my temp gauge would go up to the third little line on the gauge, but not to red. Then when i start to drive again, it goes back to normal.....whats going on? i checked my radiator, and thats fine, oil is good too...any ideas? oh also, i took my steering wheel off to fix an ignition problem that i had and now the SRS light wont go off. First it blinks, then it stays lite.....how can i get that to be OFF!!!!

SRS light can only be reset with a special SRS reset tool.

Had you not turned on your car with the steering wheel off the srs light wont go on.

Check your mechanical fan clutch, its probably to blame. Or a sticky thermostat.

ok so what am i checking for???? this is my first bimmer so im trying to learn what i can about it

Download a bentley manual, should be one stickied. Or just purchase one. It will be very helpful about this and any other questions.

most likely it's your thermostat starting to stick and go bad. that's what happened to mine.

Your electrical auxiliary may not be working. Are you running your air conditioning when this happens? Or maybe it is the temperature activated sensor-switch.

i usually dont even touch the air, i got 5 windows, but i think my termo is sticking because i was watching it today on my way to work and it goes to the third line, then back to normal.

its easy. bimmerdiy might have an artical. Or pelicanparts.

take off some belts, take off the water pump, swap the thermostat and put it all back together.

while you are at it you might as well swap out the water pump..itll save you a headache down the line when it would go out.
