What's A "later Style Center Console Frame"?

I want to get a center console cupholder for my '94 325i. Bavauto only sells the one-piece set (2 cupholders, coinholder, place for ashtray). The setup I want is the modular version where you can move the cupholders around. Pelican Parts sells that version (actually, sells the separate modular parts).

However, PelicanParts states that it's only "For cars with the later style center console frame, you can alternate the accessory inserts in your console simply by pulling them out and switching them around. You can also convert to the later style frame to accept these inserts. Check the photos below to identify the correct type of console that these inserts work with."

What is a "Later Style Console Frame"? How do I know if I have it? Can I just buy the center console frame that Pelican Parts has (part # BW-51-16-8-1-479) and slip it into my center console?

I have that setup. I have the 2 cup holders, coin holder, and ashtray, that could easily be switched. I imagine the "Later Style Console Frame" refers to the newer e36s 96-98. I have 97.
